My research focuses on the creation and properties of electronic and magnetic nanomaterials, with special attention on molecular systems. We explore the classical and quantum properties of magnets made of a few tens of atoms, down to the single-molecule level, and integrate them with carbon nanomaterials into electronic and spintronic devices.
Our research is strongly multidisciplinary, and combines areas of Physics, Chemistry, Electronics and Materials Science. It involves the synthesis of novel molecules, their structural and magnetic characterization, the development of novel high-sensitivity instrumentation to study single-molecule properties, the time-resolved spectroscopic characterization at low temperatures, and the theoretical modelling of the properties. We test and optimize the materials for applications, and tailor them towards integration into electronic, optical and magnetic devices, in order to harness their applicative potential in quantum, energy, information technologies and medicine.
